Gules and or represent the armiger's home state of New Mexico. Argent and sable were chosen for contrast. The winged bull is the symbol of St Luke, the physician, representing the armiger's current career in EMS. The snake encircling the leg mimics a rod of Asclepius, again referencing medicine. It also represents a club foot with which the armiger was born. Cinquefoils are a symbol of honor and loyalty, virtues admired by the armiger.
