Symbolism
Shield
The field divided per pale sable and argent evokes the romantic image of a half-moon, representing life and death, past and future.
Therefore, the sinister side represents one's past, the tree dead and its written in history never to be changed (sable on argent like ink on paper). The armiger's family's and his own past is dear and important him, it's a foundation that defines him. Every decision we took, everything we said or felt, where we come from and what we went through, shapes us like growth rings shape a tree. Also it symbolises his passion for History and the history of individuals, alluding to his occupation as genealogist.
The dexter side represents one's future, a light arising from the dark that strives to grow and shine. For the future is unknown and we can only find strength and guidance in ourselves and by the means of friends and family, hence the fruitful golden tree. The fruits are inspired by the coat of arms of Albardo the armiger's ancestral home.
The tree is a chestnut, a common tree in his ancestral home and also gives a small nod to his maternal grandparents, their life work and the tree is present in their places municipal arms.
Crest
The raven is the armiger's spirit animal. In some cultures it is connected to death but also knowledge and it is even sometimes seen as a protector of memories and mysteries; this makes it a paradoxical figure symbol of the armiger's struggle against his own contradictions. The raven is regardant as in looking back into the mists of time. Said raven was named 'Nyx' by the armiger, a reference to the eponymous goddess of night.
The crescent is a nod to the armigers love for the moon, both as an astral body and it's influence in the seas and cultures. This also is a very nuances reference to Portugal in it's religious beliefs, having Our Lady of Conception has it's Eternal Queen and patron.
The lightning bolt is for the armiger's academic studies and soon to be professional life in electronic engineering.
