Symbolism
These are originally the arms of Filippo Cavalcanti, son of Giovanni Cavalcanti, a banker from Florence who had the English Kingdom as one of his main customers. King Henry VIII augmented his arms due to his loyalty to the Crown, being one of his main importers of artpieces, jewelry and high quality fabric. Due to family matters he (Filippo) ended up fleeing from Florence and seeked refugee in Portugal, where in 1559 he was recognized as a nobleman as an indication from Cosimo I di Medici and given a coat of arms. He most likely tried to copy his father´s arms, but since he didn´t see them in a long time, it came out in a different way from the original. In the late 1500s he migrated to Brazil and gave birth to the most dominant sugarcane business in colonial times.
