Symbolism

The sinister side represents ones past, it's dead and its written in history never to be changed (black on white like ink on paper) my and my family's past are dear and important me, just by definition it's what defined us, every decision we took, everything we said or felt. Also it symbolises my passion for history and the history of individuals, tying me also being a genealogist. The dexter side represents ones future, a light in the dark that strives to grow and shine. For the future is unknown we can only find strength in ourselves and friends or family, hence the golden tree with leaves and fruits. Also the tree is a chestnut, a common tree in my ancestral home and also I give a small nod to my maternal grandparents, their life work and the tree is present in their places municipal arms. I think of the raven as a sort of spirit animal. In some cultures it's connected to death, knowledge and sometimes seen as a protector of memory and mysteries. He is reguardant as in looking back into the mists of time. The astrolabe is a nod to where I was born and currently live, near the coast. The lightning bolt is for my academic and soon to be professional life.
